Morning Routine

What my morning ritual looks like: good vibes (:

Mornings are my favorite time because like the peace and quiet the beginning of the day brings. I have a routine I stick to every morning to ensure that I have the energy and headspace to approach the rest of the day.

I first wake up using the “Bedtime” feature in the Clock app on my phone. I love using this because it puts my phone on Do Not Disturb starting at the chosen bedtime and then plays a soft alarm in the morning instead of the aggressive beeping noises usually offered.

I admittedly hit snooze a few times before actually getting up. Then I drink 16oz of water, throw a sweatshirt on, and make my bed. Sometimes if I feel like it and have time, I’ll have a cup of hot water with fresh lemon and ginger.

I begin my skincare routine to wake up but also start the day off with a fresh face. You can find my routine here.

After I’ve hydrated with water I’ll make my coffee. I brew fresh organic coffee in my French press then mix in Vital Proteins collagen and oat milk. My favorite way to enjoy my coffee is by a big window and with a piece or two of dark chocolate. Something about coffee makes me crave rich dark chocolate. Mt favorites are Alter Eco Blackout and Eating Evolved Signature Dark.

Once the caffeine kicks in I am awake enough to do some grounding exercises to start my day. I’ll usually play calm and uplifting music such the The Lumineers or Jhené Aiko’s new album Chilombo. I light palo Santo to bring in positive energy and because I like the scent. I might light a candle (my favorites are from Otherland) or put essential oils in my diffuser (I love the combo of geranium, peppermint, and eucalyptus).

Once I have my ~vibe~ going I like to do some light yoga to get my blood moving. Alo Yoga on Youtube has some great short classes perfect for starting the day. Then I take my vitamins (vitamin C, D, and SuperYou) and make my breakfast.

I’ll do this all if I plan to workout later in the day. If I want to get a workout in the morning I’ll have a piece of toast or Larabar with my coffee and then either do a barre3 class, go for a run, or Fitness Blender workout. After my workout I’ll shower and lather my body in Everyday Oil.

I’m not much into journaling or sitting meditation. Through calming music and light yoga I can find a meditative state that helps me clear my head and start my day on a positive note. Of course I can’t do this every morning such as when I’m traveling. I try to keep each morning as consistent as possible but of course I remain flexible when life gets in the way.
