Trust Yourself

My current intention I’ve been giving my yoga students in class is trusting in oneself. I chose this intention to encourage my students to come back to themselves, their body and mind when diving into the new year. With New Year’s Resolutions, challenging yoga postures, new jobs, and all the wonderful refreshing “restarts” a year beginning brings, it can be easy to start to doubt yourself.

I encourage my students to take a deep breath and trust your body when twisting in an intense exalted warrior or balancing in a side crow. The same goes for life off the mat — to believe in yourself when trying to achieve a goal in attempt to build their dream life, or maybe when trying to that dream job they’ve been thinking about for years.

My personal inspiration came from the fear and self-doubt I experienced in my first few weeks of teaching. Fear of making mistakes or seeming unsure of the sequence I was leading. But with each class and each time I entered the room as a teacher, I trusted myself. I knew my body and my mind could take the pressure on and teach an amazing class — so I quieted the doubt and dove in.
