Openness
The intention of openness acts as a reminder to the possibilities that come about from keeping your heart and mind open. Maybe you try that difficult yoga posture that you’ve always been afraid and you end up getting father than you expected! You maybe you fall or slip, and you’re proud that you tried. Maybe you remain open to the idea of a new opportunity in your life off the mat — a new job, new place to live, new routine, or new friends.
Even as a teacher and experienced yogi, there’s still loads of postures that I’m afraid to try. I don’t want to fall or look silly. But if I’m never open to the possibility of trying something out of my comfort zone, then how will I ever expand?
I chose this intention because I can be a bit of a control freak. I like to plan and know where my life is going from the day to day to every vacation, from my career to where I want to live. But sometimes unexpected opportunities pop up, and just because they weren’t in my well thought out and detailed plan, doesn’t mean they won’t serve me. So I’m practicing being open to the beautiful new experiences the universe, fate, higher power, life, God, or whatever you prefer to call it has to offer, and encouraging my students to do the same.
